Aromatherapy vs. Ayurveda
Aromatherapy vs. Ayurveda
Many people tend to group Aromatherapy under the larger umbrella of Ayurveda simply because both are ancient, plant-based, and holistic. But here’s the truth: while they share a few roots, they’re not the same tree.

Good to Know!
Aromatherapy works by stimulating the nervous system through the inhalation of essential oils (therapeutic oils extracted from various aromatic plants) , which can then trigger a chain reaction of signals to the brain and affect the body's chemistry.
The scent molecules of essential oils stimulate olfactory receptors in the nose, sending messages to the brain's limbic system, the emotional center, and hypothalamus, influencing mood, memory, and hormone release.
Aromatherapy work on the body through 3 different pathways - the cutaneous pathway (through the skin),
the respiratory pathway (through the membrane of lungs), the olfactory pathway (through the neuro-endocrine system)
Yes, aromatherapy oils, also known as essential oils, can be used on the skin, but they must be diluted with a carrier oil before application.
It's necessary to dilute the essential oils before using. Depending on your skin sensitivity and the strength of the oil, pure, undiluted essential oils can cause skin irritation, redness, or allergic reactions.
Here's why dilution is important and how you do it:
- High Concentration: Essential oils are highly concentrated and can be too potent for direct skin contact.
- Carrier Oils: Carrier oils (like coconut, jojoba, almond, or grapeseed oil) dilute the essential oil and help it spread more easily on the skin.
- Patch Test: Before using a diluted essential oil blend, do a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any adverse reactions, always.
Aromatherapy, using essential oils, can be used during pregnancy for various benefits like reducing nausea, anxiety, and insomnia, but it's crucial to use them safely and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
Some oils are considered safe for use during pregnancy, while others should be avoided or used with caution, especially in the first trimester.
Here are a few aromatherapy oils that help in reducing anxiety significantly
1. Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
It is deeply calming, helps reduce cortisol (stress hormone) and is used for: general anxiety, sleep disturbances, panic
2. Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
It uplifts mood while calming nerves and is used for: Emotional overwhelm, anxious anticipation
4. Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
It helps in grounding the mind, deepens breathing and is used for: Chronic stress, anxiety with existential triggers
Always do a patch test or consult an aromatherapist before using any essential oil.
These oils are generally considered safe for dogs when used responsibly — typically via diffusion or very diluted topical use:

✅ 2. Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)

Balanced & comforting
I’ve been using the Samatvam Roll-On for a few days now, and it’s become my small moment of calm. The scent feels balanced and comforting — not too strong, not too soft. I reach for it during work or before bed, and it always leaves me feeling a little more centred. It’s just a nice, steady companion to have in my day.
My nightly reset
My favorite night ritual. I’ve been using the Susuptih Linen Spray before bed, and it’s become a quiet comfort. The scent is clean and calming, and it helps my mind switch off after a long day. I don’t fall asleep instantly, but I definitely feel more relaxed and ready to rest. It’s a simple, steady part of my night routine now.
Calming space
I’ve been using the Samatvam Diffuser Oil in the evenings, and it’s become a steady, calming presence in the background. The scent feels clean, comforting and grounding, and it makes the room feel more fresh yet settled. Nothing dramatic — just a nice, peaceful touch to the space.
The Quiet Artistry Behind Krypa
Kriti, the founder of Krypa, is an aromatherapist and certified yoga instructor who has dedicated years to mastering the interplay of breath, scent, and stillness in elevating everyday wellbeing. Her journey began in the most intimate way—handcrafting blends for loved ones, leading quiet breathwork circles, and witnessing how thoughtful rituals could gently transform one’s inner world.
As her practice deepened, so did the vision for a space that honoured these traditions with purity, intention, and artistic care. This vision became Krypa—a refined studio-brand crafted around authenticity, sensory harmony, and the belief that wellbeing should feel both personal and exquisitely simple.
